Night for Ukraine at the Roundhouse Camden

You know you are in the right place when Bob Geldorf is on stage singing “What’s so funny about peace, love and understanding?”

The Night for Ukraine 09 March at the Roundhouse was an evening that so many of us watching the brutal events in Ukraine needed. It helped us to share some financial support for the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) humanitarian work (donate here: dec.org.uk). It was also a moment to share the collective shock of how Ukraine could be under such a devastating invasion. What will happen next? Why is this happening at all?

It was incredibly put together quickly (not that you could really notice as it was a slick production with top bands) – organized by a team of people and with support from companies including: | Roundhouse | Lost | Sunflower | Phoenix Court Works | Platoon |
|
Sofar Sounds | WeAreNarrativ | Freuds | Parlour |BeHookd |Techfugees.

Live music, as always, has that mystical power to bring us together and remind us that together we can overcome the dark days. And the line-up for this quickly assembled show was proof that this crisis touches many people.  Crissie Hynde and Franz Ferdinand lit up the stage plus others including Peter Xan, Joseph Lawrence and the London Gospel Choir. Amazing job to create this event led by Fabien Riggall, founder of Secret Cinema.

However, the real centerpiece of the evening was the performance from Ukrainian sisters the Bloom Twins. Incredible harmonies and expansive charm from these two artists. They have a dreamy, angelic sound but with an edge. Check their acapella opener below on the video clips.

Night for Ukraine is more than just this one night concert. It is setting up to be a movement to galvanize support for the fight for Ukraine and against dictators. Find our more here.
