OPHELIA RAY – ‘UNNATURAL LOVING’
OPHELIA RAY MAKES HER SOLO DEBUT WITH 1980s INSPIRED ROCK TRACK ‘UNNATURAL LOVING’ .
RELEASE ON VALENTINE’S DAY- 14.02.2023
London-based rock singer/songwriter, Ophelia Ray, makes her solo debut with an evocatively retro, yet distinctively fresh female rock anthem. Despite being classically trained, Ophelia’s voice has been noted for its raw edge, having been previously described
by BBC Radio as having a truly unique and powerful tone with similarities to Stevie Nicks, Patti Smith, Siouxie Sioux and Kate Bush.
Whilst possessing a real love and reverence for the retro Queens of Rock, Ophelia also draws upon a profound interest in mythology and mysticism- as well as a contrasting appreciation for Gaelic folklore and music. This lends a subtle ethereal and poetic undercurrent to Ophelia’s otherwise boldly rebellious style of writing and performance. The result is a deeply original yet nostalgic brand of sultry rock’n’roll with femme-fatale delivery.
Ophelia’s writing is wholly autobiographical yet steeped in metaphor. She has previously received high praise for her lyrical prowess and unusual melodic phrasing, concerning the topics of unrequited love, romantic betrayal and feminine empowerment- expressed through an otherworldly and darkly intriguing lens. As well as being a keen writer, Ophelia is also a professional fashion model, designer and illustration artist. All her releases are accompanied by high-drama photoshoots and detailed hand-drawn artworks in an elaborate gothic/folklore style. For this artist, the audio and the visual arts are very much intertwined.
Ophelia’s aim for this release is to honour her influences in the world of classic rock’n’roll, but to do so with a radically contemporary originality. In 2023 you can expect to see her performing live across London with a full band, culminating in an end of year album release.
