Seasons greetings! Listen to some of my favourite recent releases and discover the latest news from CMDN artists, lovingly curated so you, too, can experience the best of what the Camden music scene has to offer! Plug in and prepare your ear holes, these are my CMDN spotlight picks:

Belako ‘Deus ex machina’

Deus ex machina is the latest offering from Basque Country post-punk outfit Belako.

The track opens up with Edge-style delayed guitar stabs before we’re introduced to a really cool, dry sounding drum groove that evokes a military marching feel. These themes percolate throughout the song and wrap around a really rousing chorus. Every time this band releases something it gets me excited in ways each different from the last, they are such a creative powerhouse!

Belako will be headlining The Camden Assembly with us on the 24th Jan, it’s not something you want to miss.

Margarita Witch Cult ‘Death Lurks at Every Turn’

That opening riff – wow! ‘Death Lurks at Every Turn’ is a relentless proto-metal supernova.

The Birmingham trio have really injected their signature high-octane, value for minutes philosophy into this – it’s super short but packs a massive punch. If you need to get hyped up quickly, stick this on!

Margarita Witch Cult will come to Camden to headline The Camden Assembly in February, grab your tickets now!

The Deniros ‘Feels’

‘Feels’ is the brand new single from The Deniros and it is FUNKY!

This is a real masterclass on how to sit on a groove and build a vibe from the ground up. The layering and dynamics are really well done, and of course there is some epic guitar playing to boot!

We are super excited to have The Deniros back on stage with us in February!

Hypnogator  ‘Madman’

‘Madman’ is a funky-heavy-bluesy single from London based psych-rockers Hypnogator.

I’m writing this hot off the back of watching these guys live and I have to say they have a really unique thing going on. They do this thing where they seamlessly blend apparently opposing sections of music together in really nuanced ways that incredibly end up making sense, and are super satisfying to listen to. ‘Madman’ is a product of this philosophy and moves through blues to funk to heavy as smooth as you like!

Idle Wives ‘Set It Off’

Hard line indie rockers ‘Idle Wives’ recent single is serious mosh pit ammo!

Indicative of bands like the Amazons and The Reytons you can just hear the sound of pints getting thrown to this. It starts with a raucous in your face riff and just keeps building the energy up to a fever pitch before closing out the tune.

Get down the front for these guys at The Water Rats on the 16th Jan!

Sam Foster Smith ‘Hotel Room’

When I’m not writing these reviews or organising shows I do actually release music myself. Now, I won’t review myself because that just seems a bit sad but you should head over and check out my latest single ‘Hotel Room’. If you like Sam Fender, The Sherlocks, or The Killers then I reckon this is for you!
