We caught up with London-based PollyPixPocketz over at Strummers Studios in Islington, They opened at the Monarch during the Camden Rocks Festival 2019 and got things off to a blazing, high-decibel start. Their promo slug tells a lot: “Born from the belly of debauchery, drollery and decadence, with a purveying essence of garlic, beer and attitude”. Their track and ala ‘80s cable tv-style vid “Soul Sukka” rips into the Camden Market rejuvenation project which is massively changing the local landscape, displacing things and generating big cash for the property developers.

PollyPixPockets Band
PollyPixPockets band at Strummers Studio – Myura Amar – Vox, Mat Kiki – Guitar, Frog – Bass & Vox, Shane Howard – Drums.

The area will definitely be forever different as grungier parts get revamped and new up-market shops and restaurants turn-up. Please no more coffee bars! The band screams out “here comes the money machine, petal to the metal and it’s heading for you. Here comes the money machine and not a single thing you can do.” The members are still upbeat about Camden though and how this unique London zone mixes up bands and all kinds of music fans across the legendary large and small venues. As Frog (guitar and vox) said: “we do this because we love it.”
