Cast

Like many other bands to come out of Liverpool, the sound of Cast started out fun and optimistic. Their brand of upbeat, guitar-driven rock resonated with listeners, and they have churned out anthem after anthem – most of which you might remember drunkenly belting out in pubs! (Walk away, Guiding Star). Cast were major players in the Britpop era, alongside other greats like Blur, Oasis and Pulp. Britpop was a golden age in British music. And Cast helped define the sound of the era, with two platinum-selling albums and numerous top 10 hits.

As the music climate has changed, the band has changed with it, moving towards a heavier, more experimental vibe. Their fans are still faithful to them as their lead, John Powers, continues to create thought-inducing lyrics: “Someone will always be, more than I’ll ever be, so then I’ll be myself.”

These Liverpudlian legends have since been labelled ‘The Who of the 90s’, and Noel Gallagher once described watching the band perform live as, “a religious experience”.

Go and see them at Kentish Town O2 Forum on the 21st September. If you like.
