CMDN’s November Spotlight Picks

Listen to some of my favourite recent releases and discover the latest news from CMDN artists, lovingly curated so you, too, can experience the best of what the Camden music scene has to offer! Plug in and prepare your ear holes, these are my CMDN spotlight picks:

Nia Wyn ‘Paranoid’

Butter smooth and groovy as hell, ‘Paranoid’ is Nia Wyn’s latest single in the build up to her upcoming album ‘A Pleasure To Have In Class’.

The track features vintage soul elements with a prominent beat and groovy bassline, and of course Nia’s signature vocal sound. As always, her artistry is undeniable – her style is just so recognisable and I really love the old school patina that characterises her latest work.

Katie Grace ‘Jodie’

‘Jodie’ is the latest single from singer-songwriter Katie Grace!

I’ve been fortunate enough to discover Katie’s music after she started playing gigs with us recently. Her songwriting is really fantastic, striking even. ‘Jodie’ is the perfect example of this – hooky melodies combined with mature, poised lyricism. Katie is an undiscovered gem in my opinion, and you should definitely check her out!

The Deniros ‘Step No More’

‘Step No More’ is vintage Rock and Roll gold from jam band The Deniros.

Seeing these guys live is an experience! All fantastically accomplished musicians it’s a music at its purest with extended improvisations akimbo and an infectiously fun vibe. ‘Step No More’ gives a great flavour of this; it’s very 60’s psychedelic rock, chock full of gutsy vocals and wha wha guitars.

The Deniros will join us back on stage in February, don’t miss it.

Penny Skint ‘Damage’

The latest single from Dartford rockers Penny Skint, ‘Damage’ delivers moody energy with weighty guitars and a pumping groove.

The song starts sludgy and laid back but blossoms into a frantic jam section halfway through. Liam’s guitar tone really shines through in this with its fuzzed out reverby goodness filling out the space.

Hot off the back of their recent sold-out show with us, Penny Skint return to CMDN in January.

The Barratts ‘Garden Hopping’

The first song off The Barratts recent EP ‘Holding Up The Queue’, ‘Garden Hopping’ is a classic indie banger!

With a Strokes-esque arrangement this track is infectiously catchy and feels really authentic. It starts off with a sample of what sounds like a noisy pub and develops as the lyrics place the song nicely in a hometown location – something which really makes you feel like you’re connecting to the band’s background. I had the pleasure of watching these guys support The Flitz at The Camden Assembly recently and they put on a great live show, really winning the crowd over.

Teddy Clarke ‘Blue Tablet’

‘Blue Tablet’ is the latest single from Teddy Clarke.

The production on this is really cool; it feels almost cinematic, like it belongs on a TV show. It explores themes of addiction and captures a really moody vibe with its instrumentation. Teddy’s catalogue is really great and you should go and check him out, he really has his own thing going on and he doesn’t miss!
