Edinburgh based brothers Dubinski release their
brand new single ‘Downtown Operation’.
Stream the single here. Produced by Grammy award winners
Mike Horner (Franz Ferdinand, Placebo, Hot Chip)
and Robbie Nelson (Beck, Royal Blood, The Kooks), the
track condemns systemic racial profiling and police
brutality whilst featuring an infectious
looping synth and soaring melodies ready to kick off the
guys UK tour. All UK dates can be found below.
Hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland, Dubinski are four inseparable siblings: Eugene, Fergus,
Donal and Eoin Gaine. Originally from the remote green hills of North Yorkshire, the Gaine
brothers spent their childhood in atmospheric and social isolation. A shared love of music
was the common thread amongst the four, so they spent their adolescent years writing and
performing songs for the sheer joy of it. Eventually the brothers moved to Edinburgh, having
decided to raise the bar of their childhood music ‘hobby’ to make a proper go of it. Taking on
the band name Dubinski (their late mother’s maiden name), the band recorded their debut
album at RAK Studios in London, working with Grammy Award winning
producers/engineers. Having recently released the eponymous album worldwide through
Gnu Roam (Kartel Music Group), Dubinski have now taken their high-energy show on the
road as an international touring act.
In this new single, the brothers passionately shine a light on the willful blindness of political
leaders whilst continuing to bring that infectious synth/indie rock sound they are so good at.
Speaking of ‘Downtown Operation’, the band say, “‘Downtown Operation’ is a song of
despair and forewarning, a declaration of resignation by the disenfranchised, who invariably
trade childhood hopes and dreams for fear, resignation and societal exasperation. At its
most egregious, it’s the story of racial profiling and police brutality, but it ultimately begs
bigger questions, calling out the willful blindness of our political leaders who perpetuate a
system that fuels acts of desperation by our society’s lost souls”
Recorded at RAK Studios in London, the band released their self-titled, debut album last
year. Diverse and dynamic – spiky Brit pop one moment and punky new wave the next- the
band gained support in the forms of Earmilk, Daily Record and Louder Than War.
Thanks to their fast-phased alt-rock and visceral live sets, Dubinski have firmly made a
name for themselves with support from BBC 6music and John Kennedy at Radio X. They
have also seen praises from the likes of BBC Radio Scotland, Scotland On Sunday and
Record Of The Day, among others – before gaining a nomination for best newcomers at the
Scottish Alternative Music Awards and performing on some of the biggest stages in the
country.
