Psychedelic Porn Crumpets Gonna Toast Your Mind

It’s a name you might mumble to your mother. But once you hear the riffs you’ll understand the need for some smut in the name.

The Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are another part of the long, strong line of psych-rock-garage-bands from the land of Oz… (Like down under, not the wizard of-) Tame Impala, King Gizzard, the Murlocs, Courtney Barnett. There is something going on down there, is it something in the water? Spider bites?

Whatever it is that makes the Aussies so damn riff-y is spreading like wildfire. The live shows of the Perth four-piece are raucous, sing-a-long, surf-along affairs. They combine towering riffs with resonant harmony and drench it all in tie-day, fuzzy fun times.

Last year the band played the Shacklewell Arms. Squeezing in their legions to fill the place to capacity, this time around it’s the rather more spacious Electric Ballroom. Things are going to get sweaty down front, to the side and probably quite far back, as plentiful pits and crowd-surfing are the norm.

With three albums to their name, the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets aren’t short on material. They’re masters of building tension and uncorking iridescent release throughout their set. Visceral, and fan-favourite hits, like “Cornflake” are counterbalanced by introspective and melodic instrumentals.

Come catch the latest emergence from the Antipodean Big Band Bang at the Electric Ballroom on October 22nd.
