Amanda St John turned on her mobile phone and broadcast a lively set from her home kitchen in Northern Ireland today. She said, “well you can’t go to the Camden Chapel now, so we are going to bring it to you.” Life in lockdown can’t get in the way of musicians sharing their sounds, even if the technology stills seems to get in the way these days. Yet, it all works and it was an intimate connection with the R&B singer as she played her songs and a few covers. Plus you have love her Irish accent! See the full recorded stream below.
Her tracks were stripped down to the bare bone over live stream, but she still projected a lot of feeling. Check out tracks Where is the Man, Muscle Shoals and Grow to get an idea of her sound. She also played her new track Made Myself a Name from her forthcoming album “The Muscle Shoals Sessions.”

Going out to Muscle Shoals was a great experience, she explained, as her recording studio was infused with the spirit of the greats like Aretha Franklin and Eta James. On the live stream, Amanda St John played a tribute to Aretha with a killer version of Respect. She additionally shared another personal story about how she started singing at the age of 31 after surviving a very near-death experience after a car crash. She was determined to survive and then face her life’s dream of being a professional singer. You can feel that energy in her Grow track which she made after recovering.
