Roswell’s Enticing Harmonies
Roswell are coming to Camden to entice you with their honey-like tunes. They describe themselves as a “harmony-obsessed Indie-American-Folk” duo. Having spent the past few days bewitched by debut EP “Remedy”, I can guarantee, that description is an understatement. (Their surreal ability to harmonise will get you hooked.)
Singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Jasmine Watkins and Zoë Wren serendipitously met at an open mic in Ely in 2018 and discovered their voices magically meld together. Their sound is acoustic, with minimal percussion and a deft weaving of guitars, violins and the occasional ukulele.
Drawing heavily on the rustic, Americana tradition, Roswell somehow manage to root their smooth folk in the present. London Town (performed in Hampstead Heath) brings out the city’s alienating yet beautiful strangeness. “Restless” is a rousing call to arms: “Restless with the hope of something more / for a struggle / for some wisdom / for a change.” and “What I Know Now“ swings from playful and cheerful to bittersweet and wistful.
The launch of their second EP “Come Home” will take place at the iconic Green Note, where a pre-famous Amy Winehouse and Ed Sheeran honed their craft. This intimate gig is a treat if you’re treasure hunting in Camden, looking for the freshest voices and the smoothest of harmonies.
