Greentea Peng opened the BBC 6 Music Festival at Dingwalls tonight bright and early at 7pm on the dot. BBC were shooting and recording the gig, so it was precisely on time. She would have been worth the wait timing though, had there been any. She delivered her trippy neo-R&B, psychedelic, trancey sound in full. There’s a lot going on behind her bluesy voice tinged with girlish charm. She even slid in a bit of reggaeton in a cool mix of her “Mr. Sun” with Bob Marley’s “Sun is Shining”. This was a great link to her new track, just released, “Ghost Town”.
I’ve been listening to her on Spotify and it was fantastic to see her in a small venue. It seems like she’s just getting warmed-up. She’s heading out on the round across the UK and will be back in Camden at the end of March for a sold-out gig at the Jazz Cafe.
