Are the jingles in every supermarket aisle driving you crazy yet? Refresh your pallet with a bit of unfestive funk. Or get in the mood for the holidays. Whatever – you’ll be dancing… The Blackbyrds bring jazz, soul, funk and R n B and a sexy beat to their live shows.

They’re a long-standing bunch, having gotten together back in 1973. This group just keeps going – like a funky Yes.  Their tracks have been sampled by a sizeable number of hip hop stars; including Ice Cube, Massive Attack, Ga Leng Sarr and Wiz Khalifa. Their more recent work with Keith Kilgo has seen the group settle firmly into their jazz funk sound, their album together “City Life” is written for the dance floor. The mix of sax, drums and guitar creating an irresistible tug on the soles of your shopping weary feet.

So get with it. Dance and get merry with the Blackbyrds at the Jazz Café on the 21st.

Tracks to check out:

“I need your love” – has a disco edge to it that is sure to fill a dance floor

“Happy Music” – heavier bassline brings the grooves

“Do it fluid” – you know

Cool interview with the lead singer.
