Dramatic, Gothic, East London blues gang seeks one or two more audience members for almost sold out show. Dreamchild come real-of-Kitty-and-Jon, the blues are back in town. Saint Agnes play Dingwalls on the 24th of October, if you can grab a ticket that is – their take on the classic rock and stomp blues is pretty popular, it seems.
Welcome to Silvertown is the new album of Saint Agnes, and if you hadn’t parsed by now, it is bluesay baby. Blues, blues blues. Have you ever heard of Jim Morrison? What about the Rolling Stones? Imagine Jack White having a dream he’s in another (yes another) band. That’s Saint Agnes.
They’re drenched in the symbols of historic pop culture, without a hint of irony framing the display. But this is a band built on attack, tension and release. I get the impression – if this were the Province of Almería in the 60s or 70s – they would like to shoot me with a six. Because why am I talking? When I could be dancing, shouting and raging against sumthun or else…
With the exception of Kitty’s exposure of equality – see the intro flash card to the video (below) of The Death or Glory Gang and clever creative direction within it – rock n roll plus blues doesn’t change much. And as a general fact here now, it ain’t changing for you, me, or anybody. Look forward to a barnstorming whiskey chaser at the well-matched Dingwalls this October.
