The Jazz Cafe Reopens

After what has felt like forever, it’s incredibly exciting to have some solidly good news on the horizon. The good news being that Camden’s Jazz Cafe was finally set to reopen on the 18th of September.

So what’s that going to look like in this “new normal”? During their time away The Jazz Cafe have had a refurb in order to put on shows that are safe and compliant with social distancing. Which means that everything will be seated- no dance floor for the time being- but that doesn’t detract from the fact they’ll still be putting on some of the finest gigs in the city. The opening night sees The Sierra Band play and in coming weeks acts include Dele Sosimi and James Copus And Joe Downard.

The Jazz Cafe have – like many other Camden venues – struggled financially throughout the pandemic, successfully raising funds to keep themselves afloat via a crowdfunder. Reopening doesn’t mean that things are fully secure though, so there’s never been a better time to support an iconic venue. As head booker, Ruari Frew explains:

“Our world is largely made up of freelancers, many of whom fell through the gaps of any government support. It’s crucial that we get as many people as possible working again in a safe environment. Although it’s not sustainable in the medium or long term, for now it’s exciting to have musicians on stage in front of an audience, engineers in booths and bar staff serving drinks again.”

Cheers to that.

Check out Young Gun Silver Fox, if you can. They’ll be bringing in next year with some awesome Fleetwood Mac-esque tunes:
