They’re raw and hyper. Signed to Castle Face Records (the label for all things loud and alternative), Legendary San Fran rock group, Thee Oh Sees, combine a mix of psychedelia, punk and rock. For some reason, they got two drummers.
Lead band member John Dwyer is known for his – how shall I put it? – particularly extravagant performance style. Seeing them in a venue the size of the Electric Ballroom is going to be epic. Expect visual effects, sonic assault to soothe the soul and a very sweaty crowd.
One of their more recent albums is called Face Stabber, which tells you all you need to know. With a discography that stretches back to the 90s, they’re real vets of the scene. Both paying homage to the genres they incorporate their lineage whilst constantly re-inventing those sounds. Their album Orc for example was produced with Ty Segall- so sitting more on the punky side of things- yet their next record Memory of a Cut Off Head was significantly more lo-fi and predominantly acoustic. Other groups they’ve worked with include TV On The Radio. Unlike other bands that are just chugging along, they haven’t they lost it – their most recent EP The 12″ Synth proves their sound is as fresh as ever.
