I know the cold, relentless gloom of London in January is starting to grate a bit; the freezing cold bus stops and dark mornings. Which means it’s probably time for an injection of sun. Which is precisely what Girl Ray bring to the party.

Their sound sits somewhere between lo-fi indie and floaty dream pop. They’re a sweaty summer evening, shot through with longing and heartbreak. The perfect antidote to the dreary when-is-this-going-to-change type of feeling that hangs around this time of year.

Girl Ray are a female trio who come from North London. They blend sounds like Todd Rundegren and Carole King. They’re likely to draw an Indie kid crowd.

The girls met at Finchley Fortismere School (where Rod Stewart and Ray Davies of The Kinks were pupils) and have continued to work together since signing with boutique label Moshi Moshi (who’ve released records by Lykke Li and Florence and the Machine).

They sit comfortably in the bracket the label does so well. Think jangly guitars, synthy vocals and lilting flute solos. They sing about heartbreak and angst, but it sure is beautiful.
