Melodic singer songwriter Kitty Montague douses pop with soul and sets it on fire. Her raw, emotive and authentic writing style has earned her recognition from Notion, Music Crown and BBC Introducing. She also recently played our live stream.

Kitty exudes unapologetic, rebellious music. She’s a woman on a mission to shed light on the dense themes rooted in her own personal experiences. From sexism, toxic relationships, female empowerment to self-worth, Kitty sonically paints a picture. Imo her ability to show such duality in her music as an emerging artist is refreshing. Kitty doesn’t seem to play it safe; it is what it is, and it appears to be laid bare.

Bad Boy is a track hoards of people can relate to – you know, when that toxic ex-lover tries to come back?! It’s about self-affirmation and saying no to the bullshit.

‘This song represents a major transition within me, where I began to value myself, and genuinely believe my worth; I stopped giving second chances to the people who didn’t respect me the first time round.’

That voice tho’. It’s probably the reason Kitty’s recent accomplishments include supporting Gabrielle Aplin for Banquet Records. I caught up with Kitty to find out a little more about her aims, message and coming release.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Know your worth and back yourself!!  Don’t let anyone devalue you.

What is the most useless talent you have?

Making origami hearts.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

Absolutely! I’m more of a shower freestyler though – I’ve even written a couple of songs from melodies that popped into my head while washing my hair.

What would you be doing right now if it wasn’t for your music career?

Before I threw myself into music full time, I was a ski instructor – so I’d be clipped into a pair of skis somewhere.  Probably a very un-exotic dry slope in the UK!

Who inspired you to make music?

I grew up watching my cousin make music, which was a huge inspiration.  Without him I don’t think I would have really believed that pursuing music was even an option.

What new releases are you working on?

I’ve got a few more singles lined up and lots of new music for you to hear, but that is all I can tell you for now!

Having canceled her date on the 15th, Kitty will be playing for our Zombie Horse tour, dates tbc, so keep an eye out!
