Dingwalls Loses It Name
World-famous and emerging indie bands will no longer be able to play Dingwalls in Camden Town. First opened in 1973 and hosting Blondie’s first ever UK gig, the venue has lost its renown name.
Was it on July 5, 1976 that punk went into overdrive when the Ramones played Dingwalls to a crowd featuring future brit punk legends including the Clash, Sex Pistols, Billy Idol and Siouxsie Sioux? The ghosts of punks past certainly seem to still roam the dank brickwork around there.
The good news, hopefully, is that the 500 tix venue will take on a new vibrant chapter under the ownership of world-class promoter Vince Power. Power says he couldn’t make a deal with the Dingwalls name owner and decided to use his own brand PowerHaus. Says Power, “I hope to continue in the tradition of booking great artists like Radiohead, Stone Roses, Primal Scream, Blue and the Flaming Lips.”
What’s in a name? I guess we will find out. Stay tuned as PowerHaus is looking to open in November.
