Since the Scissor Sisters shook velvet tail feathers and departed ways in 2012 for what they still describe as a ‘hiatus’. They’ve left a big, glittering hole in our hearts. At the core of their glitzy electroclash meets soul-disco vibe was always larger-than-life singer, Jake Shears.

Few knew that for a time after the bands split, Jake struggled with depression and anxiety. In the years that followed he began to find his feet again, flashing his diverse range of talents across the USA. This included a star role in the musical, Kinky Boot’s. He also penned a stage adaptation of Armistead Mupin’s Tales of the City and authored a book of memoirs, Boys Keep Swinging.

In 2018 Jake Shears finally returned to bedazzle us with a fresh platter of disco-licious musical delicacies, in the form of a self-titled debut solo LP. The album is presented with his familiar flamboyant, gender-flouting flare, though this time flavoured with a darker tone, which borrows from the macabre world of cabaret. This directional shift might have you longing to hear what a Jake Shears/Amanda Palmer collab might sound like?!

Want to see what the future would sound like, if the future was 1979? Then strap on your corset and knee-highs and get yourself down to the Electric Ballroom on Friday 20th September. Jake will be treating us to his fabulous, retro-conscious musical extravaganza!
