About Holloway Star *

  • How did you get into music?

London is a musical landscape of eclectic sounds ranging from blues, soul, Disco, punk and rock etc We soaked it all up.

  • What bands inspired your style and how do you differ to your roots?

The Holloway Star style is inspired by the likes of Prince, Daft Punk and Curtis Mayfield mixed with 70s Disco, 80s soul with a bit of Bowie and Talking Heads thrown in.  All of which differs to our punk roots in sound but not in spirit.

  • What would you say thrills your soul?

Sinking into a groove as a band where rhythm, bass and harmony becomes one is the soul thrill we yearn.

  • If you were to get stuck on a lonely Island, which would be the 3 albums you’ll take with you?

The 3 albums we’d take to a desert island would be The Black Album by Prince, Risqué by Chic and Off the Wall by Michael Jackson.

  • Beatles Vs Stones?

Stones over the Beatles all day long – they got funky and could handle their drugs.

  • Do you believe in aliens?

We are Holloway Star named after an exoplanet of culinary delights dished up in London N7 which is frequented by Alien beings.

… And now, all about Shane, Holloway Star’s frontman

  • How did you get into music?

Honestly! Hearing church bells at the back of our house as a child and started singing classes & writing lyrics 😀  Also a very vibrant and variety of music played in our house. My first real spice of the music industry was being signed to Defective records 2004 a house label.

  • What bands inspired your style and how do you differ to your roots?
As a band we are all varied far to many to mention but our drive infused with in the groove-funk, disco, layers of soul and some blue notes thrown in for good measure. Personally my roots as the lead singer are funky house, lover of 70s / 80s & black soul would be up there on the list of influences.
  • What would you say thrills your soul?

Living my life free of hate & Keeping balance with the human race, what thrills me is creating music, our attention to details in our music and performance makes it all very sexy.  I believe I was born to perform and send out good energy.
  • If you were to get stuck on a lonely Island, which would be the 3 albums you’ll take with you?

    1. Any Curtis Mayfield 2. Best of Gil Scott heron 3. Frankie Knuckles hits.
  • Do you believe in aliens?

Yes yes yes I am one. I offen wake thinking someone has taken me apart and put me back together again.  😉
